UC Davis Police Brutality on Peaceful Student Protestors

  2. On Friday, November 18, 2011 UC Davis Police were dispatched by the Chancellor’s orders to forcefully clear the UC Davis quad of any protestors and encampments. Students were peacefully protesting tuition hikes and police brutality (related incident at the UC Berkeley campus earlier in November where UC Berkeley Police seriously injured faculty and students who were peacefully protesting). 

    In response, UC Davis Police ordered protestors to disperse. When the protestors did not comply and instead linked arms and sat down peacefully, the police began shooting pepper spray at these students. After being pepper sprayed, police used batons to break up protestors—those they could not break up and haul away, they fired off more pepper spray at those in custody.

     

    UPDATE 11/19/11, 1:59 PM PST: An outraged student body and faculty have banded together to call on the resignation of UC Davis Chancellor Katehi. Davis Faculty Association has officially joined in this call for Katehi’s resignation. UC Davis and Pepperspray is now one of the top trending topics on Twitter.

  26. The Council of UC Faculty Associations Condemns Police Violence Against Non-Violent Protesters

    In a letter to the public and to the Chancellors of the UC system, the board of the CUCFA writes this:

    This week, we have seen excessive force used against non-violent protesters at UC Berkeley, UCLA, CSU Long Beach, and UC Davis. Student, faculty and staff protesters have been pepper-sprayed directly in the eyes and mouth, beaten and shoved by batons, dragged by the arms while handcuffed, and submitted to other forms of excessive force. Protesters have been hospitalized because of injuries inflicted during these incidents. The violence was unprovoked, disproportional and excessive.


    We are outraged by the excessive and unnecessary force used against peaceful protests.


    We are outraged that the administrations of UC campuses are using police brutality to suppress dissent, free speech and peaceful assembly.


    We demand that the Chancellors of the University of California cease using police violence to repress non-violent political protests. We hold them responsible for the violence and believe it can only result in an escalation of outrage that holds the potential for even more violence.


    Police brutality damages the University’s public image, and, more importantly, it damages the climate for free expression at UC. We condemn the assault on the legacy of free speech at the University of California.


    We call for greater attention to the substantive issues that motivate the protests regarding the privatization of education. With massive cuts in state funding and rising tuition costs across the community college system, the Cal State network, K-12, and the University of California, public education is undergoing a severe divestment. Student debt has reached unprecedented levels as bank profits swell. We decry the growing privatization and tuition increases that have been the frequent — and only — responses of the UC Board of Regents.

Harry Potter butterbeer jello shots/jello shot wands.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup creme soda.
  • 2 envelopes plain gelatin.
  • 1/3 cup vanilla Vodka.
  • 2/3 cup butterscotch schnapps.
  • Colored large crystal sugar for garnish, if desired.

Directions:

  1. Pour soda in a medium saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow to soak for a minute or two.
  2. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin is dissolved. (About five minutes). Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in Vodka and schnapps.
  4. Pour into 9” x 5” pan and refrigerate until fully set.
  5. Cut into desired shapes.
  6. Dip into colored crystal sugar for garnish, if desired, right before serving.

Saw a picture of this on another site so I looked up how to make it! I want to make/try this… :3

I thought I should mention that I started a new tumblr. I’m still maintaining this one as my personal collection of inspiration and thoughts, but I’m reaching out with this new one for my own little bit of fun. 

You might call it a quarter life crisis (yes, yes, I’m aware I’m not even 23 yet), or you might just call it a blog of rants and possibly good ideas. Whatever you want to call it, the tumblr is focused on providing a funny yet very blunt viewpoint on life in the 21st century, but from the perspective of someone born in the last century. I mean, I’m only in my twenties and there are things being innovated that I just question all the time.

Oh and of course I let my imagination run loose a little on that tumblr in particular. So if you’re looking for story time, you’ll find it every now and then. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I try my best to liven the blog up with illustrations or photos…some drawn or taken by me, others not. 

I’d encourage you to check it out and follow the tumblr. Reblog things you like and tell your friends. 

Oh and as an extra hint… in the near future, I will most likely be giving away delicious asian food (the packaged kind that you can store and ship…not fresh food, I’m sorry) for followers, in case that is any incentive to follow the tumblr.

Dear reader,

I started this blog because I feel ridiculous sometimes. Ridiculously old, I mean. I sit back and reflect upon my life and the fact that I was born in a different century always pops into the front of my head. There is no way I could possibly keep up with the innovations and trends that emerge in today’s society on a daily basis. 

Hell, I don’t even agree with some of them. Take Le Whif, for example. I mean, I have seen the electric cigarettes and I can understand those (kind of). But breathable chocolate?! Really?!

I must say, I am a little bit concerned. In fact, Le Whif makes me wonder what else is will land on the markets. Breathable chicken? I mean, I do suppose when I’m in a hurry, I practically inhale my food. I suppose it’s about time that that figure of speech becomes ..well… a real thing.

The thought of breathable chicken makes me concerned. …And a little bit hungry, to be honest. Especially if you can replicate the deliciousness of the rotisserie chicken’s skin, freshly cooked with all of its juices…. yum…..
